Loggerhead journal entry

This story touched me the most as well as the novel Of Mice and Men , because of the innocence of the way the animals die and how Lennie and the little boy in loggerhead didn’t kill the innocent animals purposely they just wanted to have a pet like any little boy would. He didn’t know how to feed them and what they had to eat and so they died. I like how all the stories we have read and discussed in class all have a similarity in the theme death somehow.

Loggerhead

As kids we all want pets because when your a kid, your consider to be cool to have a pet because you have someone to play with all the time and you feel like an adult because its your pet so you have responsibilities to oblige. I remember as a kid i had 3 hamsters and I love it. It taught me responsibility and how to clean up after my pet and also for my own self. I later learn that the more responsibility I had the more opportunity to have more pets to take care of like my rabbit and dog. In loggerheads, David learns this when he grows up. Granted he didn’t know any better when he was little but soon learned in the end

Sula

I found this very story very confusing because of so many characters. I started to understand it when i read it again and ask my fellow classmates questions about it. It was sort of interesting when i was reading this because the theme for me in this story is friendship and trust and during this time while i was reading this i was going through a situation where i didn’t know who to trust in my friendship so this book helped me out a lot

Passing

Passing was a very interesting story. Passing can be use as an example in todays society. I see many people pass as different nationalities or only tell half their nationality because they are embaressing of where they come from. This story is very interesting and would recommend it to everyone

Passing

The ending of the story can be debated that about whether Irene pushed Claire or if it was an accident. Even after Irene thought Claire was sleeping with her husband i dont think it was enough to motivate her to kill Claire. What I got from the end of the story was that Irene might have accidentally pushed her but after Claire hit the ground she kinda hoped she was dead because of all the trouble she caused her.

Sula

Sula was an interesting story which contained many deaths and possibly hinted at Sula’s death. Sula witnessed two deaths the deaths of chicken little and her mom and didn’t even attempt to do anything to help. After she’s gone for ten years and comes back she ends up sleeping with Nel’s husband and betrays their friendship. I feel as if in a way it was as if karma got her back for her not considering her friendship or the lives of loved ones.

Loggerheads

I found that in the story Loggerheads the author is clearly relating the lives of the loggerhead turtles he captured to his own. When he describe the loggerhead turtles banging their fins against the glass and how sad they look when out of there comfort zone it compares to his life when his dad wants to take him to a football game. When David is in the library and goes into the gentlemen’s room and sees the two men doing inappropriate things he describes their reaction to that of the flying squirrels while trying to escape and feels powerful, but afterwards he realizes that he might be judged by people the same way.

Loggerheads.

This one confused me a bit, I had thought it was simply a story that was being told. But then after discussion, I found all the connections between the author and his childhood and everything that happened during. I re-read it afterwards with a better understanding and it was much more interesting the second time around.

End of Passing

Although there is no proof of who had killed Claire or either it was just an accident. In my opinion I think Irene pushed her out the window. Some quotes that may bring even a slight thinking to maybe it was Irene are..”It was an accident, terrible accident,” (91) and “it as that smile that maddened Irene. She ran across the room, her terror tinged with ferocity, and laid a hand on Clare’s bare arm” (90-91).

Sula

One theme in this story is friendship. The friendship between Nel and Sula, they tend to have different personalities but yet get along very well. They had become best friends when they first met. They also grew up in different types of of enviroment.  Nel is brought up to be calm and obeying her mother. On the other hand Sula is raised somehwat differently. The end to their friendship is mistrust. Sual had slept with Nels husband. This is when the trust Nel had for Sula had shattered.
