Greetings Earthlings!

Hello World! My name is Amanda, I am a dual major in Technology Education and Communication Design. I am a project-based learning teacher currently building a technology and innovation lab at my school.

I was born in Brooklyn and have a fondness for all things electronic, robotic, and anything that comes with hollandaise sauce. I also collect hot sauce from different regions!

These pictures were taken in a swamp in Louisiana, outside new Orleans. I recently returned from a cross-country road trip, LA to NYC, and this little guy was one of the pals we met along the way!

Material Review:

The video “Unlearning My Name” featuring Mohamed Hassan’s spoken-word narrative of his time navigating a white, euro-centric culture as an Arabic and Muslim man offered a powerful lens into the self-identity crisis many people of color face. We can see similar themes in Jamila Lyiscott’s TED Talk, as she demands that the world see all three of her languages (home, school, and friends) as articulate and most importantly, valid. These are important pieces to keep in mind as a writer, that perhaps content itself is more important than trying to adhere to very specific rules and traditions, especially considering that rules and conditions vary greatly depending on any given number of factors. The power of cultivating one’s voice and putting it into the world without trying to push it into a predetermined box is how humanity has developed all of the most beautiful and meaningful creative pieces it has.

I love this last sentence: “The power of cultivating one’s voice and putting it into the world without trying to push it into a predetermined box is how humanity has developed all of the most beautiful and meaningful creative pieces it has.” Terrific perspective! Of course, I happen to agree, so there’s that. πŸ˜€

Building that lab sounds inspiring and like a lot of work. Good for you! Project-based learning is kind of where this course came from, btw. It’s not exactly but I would love to hear your thoughts about it as we go through.

    Gators. Scary!!!!

I would love to take the time and travel just as you did. A lot of history and memories to last a lifetime.
