1. Why are you interested in this topic?

My topic will be about the civil war that happened in the United States of America. I chose this topic because since elementary school I always found the subject of social studies interesting. I loved learning about the history of old buildings, people, battles, or inventions and how they shaped the world to become how it is today. I feel that it is important to know the history behind our country to get a better understanding of why certain people feel a certain type of way. I grew interested in this in high school when I took an American History class and the teacher made every lesson extremely interesting. He would always hand us notes about what we were going to learn for the day and all we had to do was listen and his explanations and examples were always on point. Matter of fact I still have those notes and look over them every once in a while.

2. What are you expecting research to do for you in creating your talk?

I expect my research to give me more information than I already know. I want to know more about what happened and why it happened because all we know is what the government wants us to know. I expect to find at least one article about the perspective of a soldier that fought in a battle and how he felt throughout everything. I especially want to find research about if the whole civil war could have been avoided or shortened at a certain point. I would like images of the battlefield and of some of the soldiers or even a picture of a meeting that was going on about the generals trying to find a strategy. I would like a map as well of how detailed the battles were recorded or a journal.

3. What will you do if you find information that goes completely against what you expected to find?

If I were to find the opposite of what I expect to find as I am doing my research then I would gladly talk about it. If the information is true and credible I would talk about it to either prove that everything we learn in school is not true or we just didn’t get the full picture. If possible I would change my assumptions depending on the information and if it has supporting details on what really happened during the civil and why it happened and if there was someone who caused it.
