"Game On, Python!"

Responsibility – Shon Mack Jr

In today’s way of life, I believe that gaming is so very important to how certain people behave and it does have a responsibility to society. I believe that the responsibility is to give people happiness and a way to escape reality. For example, I believe games make very happy for the sole reason that I know I can control it and do what I want. I can get on 2k when I’m stressed and be the best point guard in the league, I can get on GTA and race in super expensive cars and kill anyone I want (no I’m not saying killing people is something I’m interested in. It’s just the feeling of power I have while on the game). When my day is bad or I feel stressed, games and music always calms me down. Also, I feel like video games gives some people the drive to want and make their own game. I remember that as a kid I always wanted to make my own game since I always had a love for playing them. Now today I’m gonna taking a class in order to make my own text based game which I believe is a huge step. I think video games give us the people, creative minds and critical thinking abilities to carry out certain things since the game forces you to think. Now, I think that all people have games and treat messages differently. I’m in the right state of mind mentally and I understand that what happens in video games stays in video games. I never get the virtual reality and reality confused with each other because I understand consequences. But, others who struggle might believe that they can do whatever they do on the game in real life. So that person mentally snaps, grabs a gun, and start shooting. They naturally become more violent. Or they start disrespecting their elders or anyone around them because they do not know how to tell real life from the fake. Priorities become game first over everything and people get caught up in the wrong image. I think that parents should be more involved with their kids when it comes between the mental health and what games they play. People handle messages from games way different then others. As a result, games should be played as a result more than a “have to”. I believe that there is a lot of responsibilities that video games have with both society and the overall character of some people.

Yes, indeed, there are two sides to this argument. You might go look at Luidjy’s post and Marc’s post, and see what you make of their positions.
