Homework #3 Robert Capa

As I read Whelan’s argument, overall I think the photograph “Falling Soldier” is not staged, but I think he was trying to set up a stage though. The argument was very convincing. I do not want to say the entire photograph faked, but I think Capa was trying to set up a stage at that moment, but unfortunately, the soldier got a bullet in his head right before he tried to do some pose. I think that was real and that moment was not a fake and staged. Since there is no any distinct evidence of the truth, we cannot have an argument that is staged or not. And since Capa is already gone and no one can really tell the truth, why do people hurting his reputation?

He was a great photographer, loved war photo, and tried to show people the truth of the war. As that facts, he deserves the reputation already and to be respectful.

In addition, I do think authenticity is important. Because of one photo, it can change the point of view and bring the people confusion and distortion of the truth.

I like to have an example of staged photograph, which is “Alexander Gardner, Home of a Rebel Sharpshooter, July 1863”. This Gardner’s photo is known as staged photo, and somehow I can sense Capa’s photograph seems similar. I think Capa was trying to do somewhat similar with this photograph.

Homework #2 Civil War, Rice and Coffee

If I had a chance to choose what I can give up, I would give up coffee. We all know protein gives you the most energy and power. Coffee would wake me up all day and night. But eventually some points, it will take my health away, and lose focus and lead me to death. I would not want that even that make me awake for a long time. I understand why the soldiers dependence on coffee at that time. They were in danger, and could not go to sleep because they would not know what would happen at any time. They had to awake all the times. If they could take rice and coffee together, it would be a good combination.

However, since our question is to choose one from the rice and coffee, my choice is rice instead of coffee.

The picture is showing ‘kimchi fried rice.’ It is one of the best and famous food in Korea and many people loves it. Simply just fry some rice with kimchi.

This pasta is called ‘Alio Olio.’ It is very delicious and simple pasta that everyone can make. All you need is pasta noodle, garlic, hot pepper, salt, black pepper, and olive oil. First, you need to boil water for the noodle. Then cook the garlic and hot peppers on a hot fry pan with olive oil. This way, the garlic and hot pepper becomes brown and softer and the olive oil gets the tastes of two ingredients. When the noodle is finish cooking, combine the noodle, garlic, and hot pepper all together. I seasoned only with salt and black pepper. Make sure not to overcook because if I overcook, every ingredient will become too soft to chew and sticky, and lost the individuals’s tastes. I can taste little bit of spicy because of the hot pepper. The main thing I like about this pasta is the olive oil has the garlic tastes that they make a great harmony with all the other ingredient. Not too strong, just creates a great balance. If I had Parmesan cheese on the top, it would look more tasty.
