This is a picture I did not take… As I walk through a crowded public park seeking a spot to sit, I see a young red haired boy sitting on the sticky concrete ground with tears running down his eyes. The boy lets out a loud cry. His eyes looking at a tall raggedy blonde woman who has her back turned to him. The woman is having a flirtatious conversation with a younger man relaxing on a park bench. The young boy cries out loudly “Mama.” The woman pays no attention.

This is a picture I did not take… Once while boarding a flight back to the United States from Colombia, everyone in the plane was getting settled for take-off. A tall blonde white man in a beige suit stands up with his hands covering his mouth while looking down. He continuously starts yelling with that raspy voice he has “Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.” Everyone stares at him as his eyes start to water. The man starts throwing anything and everything on the floor. Beautiful bright red lip stick flight attendants start walking down the isle towards him. Asking him questions and to please to sit down. As he stands there pulling his grey hair out and tears running down his wrinkled face, he tells one of the flight attendants “I’ve lost my phone.” The flight attendants then start to help the man continue to search on the raggedy rugged floor of the plane. The man jumps up in relief with the cellphone in his hand.

New York Manuel Margarito

New York is a place where any one can call home. Together as a city we accomplish a lot. they call us the city that never sleeps. This is because there aren’t enough hours in the day to do what this big city does. I am amazed every time i go to the city because it feels like the world is moving around you when your there. nothing waits for you, you constantly feel like you have to catch up and that is what drives almost everyone there to do the best they can so they don’t get left behind. Mr.Poe talks about all the different type of people there are in The city. I when i walk around New York you get the feeling of the individuality of each and every person including yourself. Everyone is unique in a way and there is never a moment when you think that no stands out from the crowd. That is what i feel when i walk through our big city. That feeling of importance and individuality cant be achieved anywhere else I’ve been so far in my 18 years.

New York is a place where anyone in the world has a chance to start over and live a new life . In all three readings you get a sense that their are a lot of different categories to place people who live in the city in.Some may say that the categories would be set in by age like the young and energized or the middle aged and hard working and then the old and retired. One thing that really stuck out to me was in “What is a city” by Lewis Mumford where they asked the question what is the city built for the people? or the cars? and to me i think that the city was built to be convenient for the people if you live in anyone of the 5 boroughs you could walk two blocks in any direction and have bodega but then if you really think about it everything is easier once you acquire a licence and vehicle their are specific ways to get to places in less than 15 minutes which would once take maybe an hour or more by walking or public transportation. this changed my opinion on why the city was designed the way it is.

This is a picture I did not capture of A.R. Rehman (music director) checking in at a hotel. While people were standing in a line for his autograph. Some were taking pictures from the line and some from outside.

This is a picture I did not take in the central park of a guy playing guitar under an old tree. As people kept joining the semi circle of crowd around him. As the guy played guitar, two little sisters held hands and danced in circle with joy as you could see the big beautiful smiles on their faces.
