Numerical methods provide a way to compute (approximate) values of solutions to differential equations, even when we cannot solve the equations exactly. The drawback is the large number of numerical calculations required to obtain a desired value and level of precision. In this project, you will use technology to implement the various numerical methods and use your technological solution to solve differential equations problems.
This survey is a followup to the survey that you took recently. I am looking at how we are spending out time in class, and thinking about alternatives. I want your input!
Please complete the survey by the end of the day tomorrow, Thursday 3/4/21. The survey is intended to be anonymous and I will not look at who submitted what (feel free to log out of OpenLab before completing the survey if you want to be guaranteed anonymity).
As we enter our fourth week of class, I’d like to check in with you about how the class is going so far. In response to student requests, I am also collecting your input on the timing of the first exam. Please complete the (optional) survey below to give me your feedback no later than Tuesday 2/23. The survey is intended to be anonymous – I won’t look at who submitted what, but feel free to log out of OpenLab before completing it to ensure absolute anonymity.
NOTE: Please leave your response to this discussion prompt below (on this site, NOT on the Spring 2019 site)
In Spring 2019 I taught this course and at the end of the semester, I gave my students the following assignment:
Imagine that you are invited to speak on the first day of MAT 2680, to give advice to entering students. Write at least three sentences … describing what you would tell them.
To see the assignment and the students’ responses, follow this link.
Your assignment, due at the beginning of class next Thursday, February 18th, is to:
- Read through ALL the responses (there are 44 of them, but many of these are short replies to other comments).
- Write a reply to this post (1 paragraph) responding to all of the following:
- What advice seemed most relevant to you personally? Why? (you can copy/paste a short statement, or put it in your own words)
- Based on this advice, what changes can you make right now to help you succeed in this course?
Extra Credit. For extra credit, write a response to one of your classmates’ comments. Do you have any advice? Be kind.
You can help to organize your assignments by using Posts for both instructions and student work, and by selecting (and having your students select) appropriate Categories for each post.
