Revised homework 9/28 Part 1. Reread plan

After rereading “Later” by James Surowiecki nothing changed at all I still found majority of the texting boring and irritating. It included a lot of research that is only vouches for the perspective of a watcher but i don’t feel like it really included the thoughts of a procrastinator which defeats the purpose of explaining the possible reasons procrastination happens. The paper seemed like it was trying to say people who procrastinate are weak A specific part that didn’t really make sense to me was towards the end of the text when it mentions the opinion of who is said to be “General George Mclellan, who led the army of Potomac during the early years of the civil war”. It shouldn’t be accurate to use the opinion of an Army general considering they have basically formed their lives around making tough decisions, they are molded in a strict lifestyle vs other people who truly have free will vs what they are forced to live their lives by. apparently Mclellan thinks that , “Lack of Confidence, sometimes alternating with unrealistic dreams of heroic success, often leads to procrastination are self handicappers:rather than risk failure, they prefer to create conditions that make success impossible, a reflex that of course creates a vicious cycle” . This is a perfect example of how he is trying to imply that people are making procrastination seem like a weakness trait saying they’re making up excuses as to why they’re not successful and its just plain insensitive and Judge mental. Further more in the text its also mentioned that Mclellan stated, ” In that sense, the first step to dealing with procrastination isn’t admitting that you have a problem .It’s admitting that your “you’s” have a problem” This seems like more of a hot take and judgement of people who usually go through procrastination.Ultimately my point still stands. Why is the General so persistent in saying its a self inflicted issue and that’s all there is to it when that isn’t necessarily true. Procrastination is seen so negatively but personally i feel differently about that. I use procrastination as a form of work motivation.Waiting until the last few moments forces the creativity out of you.In my opinion, feel like everybody should just do what works best for them instead of belittling others for what works for them.

The reread plan ,The plan that I’ve made for rereading Later is to compare the notes and annotations i have made from the first time i read it to the second time and see if i notice anything new that might different from the initial opinion i had. Considering i found it boring i think it would be better for me to just read it in sections and take a couple minutes apart to analyze what i read for 5 minutes per section to give my mind and eyes a break instead of draining myself to read the text.Timing myself with 5 minutes per section i can stop myself from procrastinating and taking longer than 5. I can also ask myself questions and try to find the answers throughout the text to see if i can answer them myself.

Homework 10/12 – Brian Tenecela

After some thorough revision and brainstorming, I came up with a revised research question. What impact did the switch to online learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have on college students’ performance?  Some search terms for my research I decided to use were pandemic, online learning, and college students. I chose to use the following search terms mainly because I sought it would aid me in finding relevant information I would then be able to use in my research and explore in depth. These are my bibliographic citations for my two sources.

In “The Pandemic Generation Goes to College. It Has Not Been Easy.” writer Eliza Fawcett goes in-depth with the generation that suffered from the pandemic in this case being high school students transferring over to college. Eliza explains that a lot of material that the students needed to absorb has been missed and not fully taught to them as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. She explores all the problems students had to face and restrictions that were brought to place as a result. The complete absence from the school scenery slowly shifted them away from that experience. Eliza explains that students had difficulty even learning or staying on task due to outside factors occuring on their lives that unenabled them to stay focused.  As well as stating resources usually offered to students in school like extra help or 1 on 1 were not always available or frequent. Eliza quotes “The problems have been particularly bad for first-year students, said Paulo Lima-Filho, the executive director of the university’s math learning center, which provides tutoring” Eliza in quoting the executive director Paulo Lima-Filho explicitly shows the distress that exists within universities and the challenge first-year students face as a result from dealing with the pandemic, negatively hurting them as a result.

Homework 5/12

For my research, the primary motivator is to broaden the different perspectives to be more informative and help understand why people have formed their own opinions on abortions. While explaining my point I will also be inclusive of what others have said in contrast. By the end of my paper, I’d like the reader to be able to form their perspective using facts and possibly empathy for why others may feel a different way than their own. In my personal opinion, I don’t believe abortions should be illegal, They are not just an “easy way out”, they have reinforced so many lives and futures more healthily. Pregnancy and motherhood is a whole different journey in life and not everybody is ready or willing and that’s okay. Many may argue that even if you’re not ready you can give the child up for adoption or to other parents who are unfortunately infertile. There are resources for such situations, but why should resources for woman who want to abort their creation be criminalized? Nobody should be penalized for making a personal decision for their body, their creation, and the tone for the rest of their lives. It is also normal nowadays to see mothers often getting bashed for the ways they have made work to help with the needs to maintain their child but if they just waited for help they would be frowned upon for “expecting handouts” and not hustling for the child. I don’t believe you should spend such a short lifetime in insufferable circumstances just because you weren’t allowed to terminate a pregnancy and lifestyle you just didn’t want or weren’t ready to experience yet. Abortion is a heavy topic and I am excited to research the reason why certain opinions on abortions are based on different people. I have been reading articles about abortion through online articles, a variety of Youtube videos, and social media posts regarding abortion. It’s interesting to see the difference in opinion and thoughts.
