Homework 10/12 – Brian Tenecela

After some thorough revision and brainstorming, I came up with a revised research question. What impact did the switch to online learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have on college students’ performance?  Some search terms for my research I decided to use were pandemic, online learning, and college students. I chose to use the following search terms mainly because I sought it would aid me in finding relevant information I would then be able to use in my research and explore in depth. These are my bibliographic citations for my two sources.

In “The Pandemic Generation Goes to College. It Has Not Been Easy.” writer Eliza Fawcett goes in-depth with the generation that suffered from the pandemic in this case being high school students transferring over to college. Eliza explains that a lot of material that the students needed to absorb has been missed and not fully taught to them as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. She explores all the problems students had to face and restrictions that were brought to place as a result. The complete absence from the school scenery slowly shifted them away from that experience. Eliza explains that students had difficulty even learning or staying on task due to outside factors occuring on their lives that unenabled them to stay focused.  As well as stating resources usually offered to students in school like extra help or 1 on 1 were not always available or frequent. Eliza quotes “The problems have been particularly bad for first-year students, said Paulo Lima-Filho, the executive director of the university’s math learning center, which provides tutoring” Eliza in quoting the executive director Paulo Lima-Filho explicitly shows the distress that exists within universities and the challenge first-year students face as a result from dealing with the pandemic, negatively hurting them as a result.

Homework 10/05 – Brian Tenecela

Every year the government discusses and reviews the funds of its country, carefully deciding where every single individual funding will go. Education has always been a major factor as society views it as a fundamental piece for every person to grow. However, currently, education is not free for everyone but the question always arises to thought. If education is a major factor should it be set to be free for everyone interested in committing to that path at no cost? This question brings me interest due to the fact that I am attending college and once in a while, some random ideas come to mind. One of them happened to be education and whether or not it should be of no cost to every individual person who decides to attend or pursue going forward. Going into my research I am expecting to find some very well-formed articles, blog posts, etc. containing very thorough information on this topic since I feel like I am not the first person to think of this. I feel perhaps at one point in history was something that was actually disputed in our country. I am actually interested in finding out what people have their minds on over this topic, whether or not they agree or disagree. Perhaps some actual discussions or debates that perhaps have existed as a result of this research topic. I feel as if this research paper topic is just the center that branches off to several other topics. I aim to gather all solid information pertaining to relevant sources that will aid me in creating a solid research paper. Also, I hope that after reading and obtaining information from several sources I can come up with a side that perhaps I stand with. I am sure it won’t be an easy decision since I will be presented with great evidence and reasoning in each and every single source article.

Homework 10/03 – Brian Tenecela

As a young boy, I have always been interested in making my family proud. I am a first-generation college student and I have always wanted to have a profession which for me has always been the medical route. Since not only is it a great profession in itself and looked highly upon but it creates a big change in a person/patient’s life. Personally, I’ve always been a fan of helping others to have a great life or be better prepped because I had to learn on my own to be better equipped with knowledge and mindset. That topic has always fascinated me and I actually am pursuing it. By asking questions to people in that field who have become medical doctors and training I’ve been able to make several connections that not only have given me an open opportunity for growth but are better informed about it. My curiosity has not changed so much I still always find myself asking questions about the unknown. The educational system has definitely helped in achieve more factual information that in the future would aid me in my medical journeys to know what is being talked about. The educational system has really given me a clear set path for me to follow with the required classes that will be necessary for me to go through in order to obtain that knowledge that in gist will help me following my career. Not only has it made me see the pathway I intend to follow but has given me room to see ahead to other options. I originally wanted to go for the associate’s degree in radiology technology and be licensed within two years and start working. However, I originally planned on one day becoming an Md (medical doctor) because it would be the icing on the cake to the top of my journey. Through the educational system, they made that dream a plan that could be achieved and so I chose to follow that route.
