It’s 2023, we’re currently living in an era in which technology has become one more of our senses. It has given humanity many blessings. As it allows us to access information in the touch of nanoseconds, it has facilitated learning all across the oceans, broken the distance barrier, giving us the ability to communicate with anyone all over the globe; it has simplified tasks for humans, provided entertainment, created jobs and economies. These are a few of the many great additions technology has given us in the past 25 years of history.
Technology can include both tangible tools like utensils or machines, and intangible ones like software.
The internet is part of the intangible aspect of technology. It has become an integral part of our lives, with an exponential increase in the number of users on a daily as governments and entities give access to their communities. The evolution of the concept of technology has changed so much. We had computers that would take entire rooms in order to function today where we have small smartphones that fit in our pockets and can be carried basically anywhere. Thanks to the expansion of the internet we use our devices at home, work, school, and pretty much anywhere with internet access.
We are coming closer to becoming one with technology as it is part of our daily routines. From our lighting, thermostats, air conditioners, doors, televisions, fridges, stoves, and even our toasters. technology has really made our lives so much simpler and easier.
But why am I mentioning this? You may ask. Let me tell you why… today we all know about virtual assistant AI technology a.k.a, Hey Google, Alexa, Siri, and many more. We have taken technology to a whole new level as we have invited Artificial intelligence into our homes. But what really is AI? Artificial Intelligence is the development of computer systems and programs that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. These tasks include things like learning, reasoning, problem-solving, understanding natural language, recognizing patterns, and making decisions.
Companies like Meta. Have been working on including AI chatbots into their social platforms in 2023. According to Meta’s official website, “We’re introducing Meta AI in beta, an advanced conversational assistant that’s available on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, and is coming to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3. Meta AI can give you real-time information and generate photorealistic images from your text prompts in seconds to share with friends..”
My questions are… Where is AI technology heading? How much funding is going into it? Who are the major developers? How will it affect our lifestyles? How will it affect the masses? What is Real human-generated content versus AI-generated? Where do we draw the line? How can we navigate this? How can we make safe use of it? How will Ai affect our society and consumption of digital content? Who are the thought leaders in this field? Will it replace our jobs ???
These are some of the many questions out of the many I currently have about this topic and I bet I’m not the only one.
