Homework 10/05 – Brian Tenecela

Every year the government discusses and reviews the funds of its country, carefully deciding where every single individual funding will go. Education has always been a major factor as society views it as a fundamental piece for every person to grow. However, currently, education is not free for everyone but the question always arises to thought. If education is a major factor should it be set to be free for everyone interested in committing to that path at no cost? This question brings me interest due to the fact that I am attending college and once in a while, some random ideas come to mind. One of them happened to be education and whether or not it should be of no cost to every individual person who decides to attend or pursue going forward. Going into my research I am expecting to find some very well-formed articles, blog posts, etc. containing very thorough information on this topic since I feel like I am not the first person to think of this. I feel perhaps at one point in history was something that was actually disputed in our country. I am actually interested in finding out what people have their minds on over this topic, whether or not they agree or disagree. Perhaps some actual discussions or debates that perhaps have existed as a result of this research topic. I feel as if this research paper topic is just the center that branches off to several other topics. I aim to gather all solid information pertaining to relevant sources that will aid me in creating a solid research paper. Also, I hope that after reading and obtaining information from several sources I can come up with a side that perhaps I stand with. I am sure it won’t be an easy decision since I will be presented with great evidence and reasoning in each and every single source article.

Hi Brian! This is a great topic. As you research, it may be helpful to start narrowing this topic down. For example: Are you interested in understanding the approach taken in the U.S. only, or will you be considering other countries’ approaches to education funding as well? Do you want to examine funding for college or other levels of education (NYC has universal pre-K)? Are you interested in examining the ways in which Americans can get a “free” college education right now (grants and scholarships, enlisting, tuition waivers, government or employer sponsorship, or perhaps you may have seen the news about the Biden’s administration’s plans to cancel student loans)? Or are you more curious about how the topic has been debated in politics and our government throughout history?

Take some time to think about this. Doing some initial research may help you figure out what you specifically want to learn about. Then, I encourage you to re-write your question with some more specifics in mind. Make sure it is not a “yes-or-no” question (which is how it’s currently phrased)!

    Keep up the great work.
