Homework 1.1

I am feeling hopeful about this course and college in general. I hope to learn new things and skills that will help me with my future goals and my career.
Something I do to study is write down as many notes as possible for my classes and review them, and when I have to prepare for a quiz, I create a review sheet to minimize the content. In the end, I quiz myself with online quizzes about the subject. Something I need to work on is memorizing things.
As a new college student, I will be working and studying at the same time, which could be stressful and will require me to be on top of my work and do my absolute best. However, I think I will be able to get through it :).

I chose this picture of my cat because he is cute, sassy, and funny! This picture means something to me because he looks funny and makes me smile.

READ: “How to Read Like a Writer” by Mike Bunn

WRITE:  On the website, write a post of at least 300 words discussing the following questions. You can also post the picture of your notes from the reading in this same post:

  • In his article, Mike Bunn writes “You are already an author.” He’s talking to you.  What do you think he means by this? What are some of the things you write already?  (Hint: “Nothing” is not an acceptable answer.) Think of all of the ways you already use words in your everyday life. That’s authorship! How will that existing expertise help you in your college reading and writing career?
  • Was there anything you noticed in Bunn’s article that you would like to try to do in your own writing? What, in particular? Please be specific!

Intro

Hello, my name is Jamie, and I am in my second year at City Tech. I was also nervous throughout my first year, and I’m still getting used to it after graduating from high school. This is my first English class at college, therefore I’m very  excited about it. I haven’t developed any study habits yet, but I’m aiming to keep organized this semester. I’m also working on not procrastinating, which is the main reason I do poorly in classes. One concern I have about this subject is being required to read aloud in class, which makes me nervous.
I posted a picture of a gym (google picture), I usually don’t take pictures. I chose this image because the gym helps me deal with stress, over the summer, I’ve been going to the gym on a daily basis, developing discipline, and remaining confident.
