When I was a kid I was always interested in becoming a teacher. The thought of helping kids out and teaching them ways of learning had always caught my attention. Also, seeing how they handle so many kids was also so interesting. I would always have this one favorite teacher and I would always ask her why she loves teaching. She would always tell me if you do something you love you’re always going to have passion for it and enjoy it. Currently my interest in it has slightly changed. Over time my interest in becoming a teacher isn’t there anymore but I would say the idea of wanting to help others is still there. But as I got older I’ve come to realize it isn’t something I feel like I love and see myself in the future being one. I started having so much passion in nursing. Going to the doctors every time for a check up. I believe that the educational system fails to benefit us as kids since it does not allow us to explore and discover what we enjoy. We are all taught the same things, which does not allow us to discover what we love.

When reading “A Talk To Teachers” James talks about how teachers are very much influencers in today’s society for kids. Kids are advised to learn more about the social and historical context of the past and present, as well as how dangerous it is. James Baldwin asks all of us to expand our knowledge of American society. He talks about his own perspective and what he thinks about our society. When James Baldwin says “the world is larger” , what I think he is trying to say is to not only learn what others teach or show us but to also go learn for yourself. The world is big enough for all of us to do our own thing. We’re only taught some but not all.
What I wish we should have been taught earlier was about finance and how to save your money. This is something as you get older you have to face a lot of bills and control things with money. Same with credit cards. I would’ve liked to know how many credits you need, what’s good, what’s bad. This is something we all need to know as we get older and is useful information to know as well.

In this article “Later” by James talks about different ways to procrastinate and how it all affects each other. The article talks about how everyone procrastinates no matter who they are and how it affects them. I found the article pretty interesting because I can relate to it when the author states, “ Many of us go through life with an array of undone tasks, large and small, nibbling at our conscience.” This is definitely something many of us can relate to, even the author said it. We all procrastinate no matter who we are. Which I would have never really thought that really EVERYONE procrastinates regardless of who they are. In paragraph 10 James talking about procrastination affected a social scientist Jon Elister talks about not only you procrastinate by using electronics but you also procrastinate by doing other things that need to be done. Something confusing I found is when he talks about different people and they’re perspective on procrastinating. I think for some people including myself it can be a bit confusing but I see where it can be useful and helpful also. Procrastination has been happening for a while now but it has affected people differently including today. I could agree with this part of the article where the author states, “Procrastination most often arises from a sense that there is too much to do, and hence no single aspect of the to-do worth doing.” Which is a situation I can identify with. I feel like I would be aware of how much work I have to get done, but I keep putting it off and finding other things to do.
