Research Question Proposal

What does it really take to have a successful, prolonging career on YouTube? This is a question Iā€™ve had for as long as I can remember. From what I hear is that it is a flexible job to sustain though it appears some peopleā€™s success varies sometimes. A select amount of YouTubersā€™ popularity have the chance of plummet supposedly due to algorithms. With good awareness in those algorithms comes the ability to adjust accordingly. Iā€™d also hope to get to know what exactly those ā€œalgorithmsā€ are that the YouTube community mentions every now and then. Those who are very creative or are good at coming with ideas tend to prosper. The idea of striving to become a prosperous YouTuber is almost comparable to gambling in the sense that your success is not guaranteed. There are of course other aspects I wish to look more into such as whether this is a career where networking is necessary or can be applied at all, owning more than one channel at a time would allow for more exposure, or if there any particular strategies that are reliable to go by? From my experience as a person who tried it out as a middle school student, I soon came to notice that it took a lot more work than I initially thought it would, especially on my own. What made me so interested in this field was that the types of content to be presented to others was almost endless. It was also just fun to both watch others channels and be in the middle of the process of making your own content.

HW 2.2

As a kid, the idea of being a popular YouTuber was what piqued my curiosity in knowing more about. Actually trying it out for myself is something that I considered at several points in my life, even nowadays. I would question how youtubers made the content they made, when they realized they could do it, or what it was that made them decide to do it in the first place. If I remember correctly, I did ā€œmake an attemptā€ in content creation on YouTube for about 2 years when I was in middle school. After that, I slowly, but surely, started to neglect it’s overall existence. There was no particular reason for this as it just kind of happened on its own. It wasnā€™t until recently when I strongly considered that it could actually be a good career to be in due to the creative aspect of it and how flexible it can be, in terms of working hours. The education system did not necessarily make a direct impact on how I viewed that lifestyle, however, I guess you can say it opened my eyes to the many different fields I could go in. It was likely a good thing this happened since most peopleā€™s YouTube career donā€™t last as long as others, more specifically on how safe or reliable it is. There is probably a much darker side to the life of a YouTuber that Iā€™m unaware of at the moment which is why I see this as being one of my greatest interests.

Homework 2.1

I feel like Baldwin spoke very truthfully about what he hopes to teach his students, such as the endless possibilities that each of them have to make a significant change in the society we live in. In other words, there is a limit to how much history that lies within America whereas the capabilities of its future can go on forever and ever. When Baldwin brings up that ā€œthe world is largerā€, it seems as though he is trying to show how there are several ideals, in this case equal lifestyles, that are either yet to be discovered or even just be fully acknowledged by those who are for them to help fix the issue in that area. It is also kind of like oneā€™s ability to make the necessary changes is constantly growing. Personally, I think I have the obligation to be able to touch upon and learn more about the gender wage gap. To be honest, this isnā€™t something that is consistently crossing my mind but when it does it does. The statistic is that women up to this day are getting paid generally less than what men are being paid. For me to bring this up a male may seem as a shock, but knowing that I am technically at an advantage while the opposite gender isnā€™t almost feels undeserving. I also feel this is something that is overlooked by many and should be taught more in schools due to the fact that we live in a society nowadays where gender is more variable than what it used to be with people being transgender, non-binary, etc.
