This paper talks about analyzing and identifying the theories of Saussure and Peirce’s semiotic terms, signifiers, and signified. It’s also identifying if the signs are icons, indexes, or symbols. It examines the linguistic and iconic messages and what types of reception and representation there are in the “Chinaman stepee on cat’s tailee” trade card for the Union Pacific Tea Company.
