- Hand crafted magazines for the Jackson 5 and partridge family when she was young
- Creative director of SpotCo
- Paul Scher is her mentor
- Worked at Rolling Stones magazine with Fred Woodward
- Favorite font is trade gothic
- Her works are a permanent collection in the Copper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum
- Designs are very type heavy posters
Herb Lubalin
- Born march 17 1918
- 1970- Founder and editor of International Typeface Corporation
- Created the original NBC peacock in 1957
- 1973 founded and edited UPPER AND lOWERCASE
- 1977 Inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame
- Designed Avant Garde Gothic Typeface
- Created Logo for mother and child, where the child is made from the Ampersand
- Very Versatile Designer
Claude Garamond
- One of the most famous typefaces
- Started as an apprentice of Antoine Augerau
- He was an apprentice for 25 years
- He went on to establish his own printing shop
- In 1545 he published his first book
- Admired Aldus Aldus Manutis
- Insisted on clarity on design, generous margins, and the basic rules of design that we still follow today
- First purely handwritten style to read better when printed
- Popularity typeface used primarily for body copy
- People before him tried to emulate handwritten type but he did it so that it would look better when printed
Johannes Gutenberg
- Created Gutenberg bible and created moveable type
- Created printing press in 1440
- Started Age of Enlightenment
- Gutenberg’s system brought ease to printers
- Allowing printers to create more books in volume and quickness
- Father was a merchant
- Used blackletter
- Lowercase letters stored in drop case and uppercase letters stored in the case above, giving way to the phrases upper and lower case
Aldus Manutus
- Born in 1449
- Founded Eldine Press- smaller press
- Created the form of the basic book we have today- binding, size etc.
- Brings into form Greek philosophers like Plato and Aristotle to the common people
- Continued the work of Gutenberg
- Commissioned typefaces in Greek and Latin
- Founded most famous printing press in the 16th Century
- Created italic style
- Small serif letter- legibility is now apparent in his works

- Worked as designer for CCA
- Founded unmark that did works for JCPenny, IBM, and American Airlines
- Logo Designs for Bloomingdales and more, furniture design

Nicholas Jenson

- Responsible for making the definitive break away from blackletter

- Didnāt actually create typefaces until he was 50
- Opened his own printing shop in 1458
