“Shitty First Drafts”

Reading “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott I noticed it took her 3 steps to write one piece because all good writers write them. Step one write a first draft pouring your mind that was extremely long like how a child would write. Step two was going back and briefly going through it with a colored pen to fix anything that didn’t belong or ways on how she can improve which ended up her writing her second draft. Lastly was going over it just one more time to fix any little errors she could’ve missed and then publish it. I think these steps are great ways in becoming a good writer because it takes practice you can fail many times but you will eventually create a good piece.

My views on my writing have changed a bit I haven’t really used her method in writing 3 drafts. I was advised to but I never took it into consideration. Many can say it’s a waste of time but if we think about it, it can be very useful if you want to give in a good piece of work. Using a highlighter or a colored pen will be something I will be using from now on its efficient.

“How to read like a writer”

The Article by Mike Bunn “You are already an author” means to me is by taking this course or reading this Article we can that that knowledge to use in our writing to become better writers in the future. We can become better by picking up new strategies from those who are better writers or by reading. One specific part I found interesting about Bunn’s is when he said “writing is a word by – word, sentence by sentence”. Sometimes many of us tend to rush including me maybe like what I am doing right now but we don’t take our time to process what we write on paper. We don’t see if we can use better word choice or if our sentences are completed understandable sentences. What I’ve noticed from my writing is that I write in general like if I’m speaking to an audience when I should be writing in specific. I’ve always had trouble with finding ways to not sound boring but make my writing interesting so the reader can have questions after or assumptions while reading or after reading. There are many things I liked about Bunn’s article many things that I will start using in my writing not only to become better in this course but to improve with my own writing. I would use quotes to start my essays I had professors that will tell me if I wanted to make my writing interesting I should start with a quote to catch the reader’s attention reading this article I don’t if it’s the best idea how do I know if the quote is too long or short. The advice he gave me I will keep in mind every time I write. I won’t become a good writer over night but if I practice I can be.

I am feeling keen and thrilled about this course because it’s something new. Every course is different I have new professors and colleagues with new material, it’s been a very interesting year for me with this online school thing not being able to interact with others but having to stare at a screen for so long makes me feel like a robot. A huge issue for me is not being able to get help quickly or at least have my questions answered being that we aren’t going to school so we must email our professors and wait till they respond which not all respond immediately. There is a lack of help which is needed in my opinion especially when this could be new to you. I set a few goals this year I hope I can meet all of them.

This car right here is what I plan to build up in a couple of years  a Hiroya Satoh Nissan. Japanese cars is what I am into. I hope I am able to not only build one for myself but to create my shop. This motivates me in a way because although I want to major in civil engineering cars is one of my passions so I hope I can accomplish that too.
