Live Well 3rd post

After doing the Live Well exercise about stress, I realized that I do not take time out of my day to address the things that are stressing me. When this happens, I feel myself dealing with a load of stress and it becomes overwhelming. One thing that I realized is that I allow my stress to pile up. In order to deal with the things that stress me out, I have to find stress management techniques that are tailored to my lifestyle. Taking ten minutes out of my day to figure out what’s stressing me out is one way that I want to start dealing with my stress. This will allow me some down time to recap on the things stressing me out and then find possible solutions.

LiveWell Session 2

After completing session 1 of LiveWell, I decided to try healhier options. Pictured above is a smoothie bowl I made which consists of peach, mango, banana, coconut, blueberries and granola. In session 2 of LiveWell, it was interesting to look at the way I manage my nutrition and exercise in conjunction with stress.  My days are usually very busy which can be overwhelming so it’s difficult to think about healthier options or even think about finding a moment in my day to do something for myself. One thing I realized while going through the session is that it’s important to have supportive people in my life who can motivate me and have a positive influence when it comes to healthy living. For myself, my fiance is the person who constantly reminds me to choose better options, take an afternoon walk or hit the gym even if it’s late at night. Her optimism keeps me going. Another thing I learned is that it’s important to find time for myself and do something I would enjoy. A game of basketball always over powers the stress for me. I now try to plan atleast one time during the week where I can go play and relieve my stresses that way. It truly helps because I’m in a better mood and I get exercise in at the same time.

Live Well

I liked the LiveWell program because it was easy for me to understand and it helped me to see where I am in terms of my fitness and health. I was able to see what some of my behaviors are that contributes to unhealthy living and then. ways in which I can alter those behaviors to improve my lifestyle. For me, staying consistent and having a routine has been my biggest issue. It’s sometimes easier to eat foods that are easily accessible than preparing food that’s good for me. Moving forward, I have to commit to being consistent and making healthy eating a part of my daily lifestyle.

Active Minds

Active Minds is a non-profit organization that recognizes mental illnesses. It’s creator, Alison Malmon, established the organization following the suicide of her brother who suffered from a mental illness in silence. Active Minds has become an advocate for mental illness for young adults all across the nation. It provides useful tools such as a complete page of mental health resources and a National Suicide Prevention Hotline for those severely suffering and in need of immediate help. For those who want to contribute to the cause, it offers volunteer opportunities, internships and careers with the organization. Active Minds seems like a great idea where young adults can gain support and not feel alone. It provides resources that they can access, especially if they are suffering in silence. College students face some of the toughest times dealing with the stresses of classes, relationships, future plans and much more. An organization like Active Minds serves as a good support system. It’s also good for families to gain information if they suspect someone is struggling.
