Service to the College

The Pearl — I was the central figure in designing and overseeing COMD’s education environment, a $2.5M capital project for the design and construction of the Communication Design Department’s educational facility on the first floor of the Pearl Building. The 7-year initiative was a complete project management endeavor and involved:

Written proposals detailing the department’s needs and future goals for an educational environment

Drawn sketches and diagrams of our ideal work and leaning environment

Participation in meetings with CUNY architects, engineer, DASNY Consultants and City Tech administration

Follow through with CUNY suppliers on educational furniture and fixtures

The GRA division was in the middle of an accreditation process, all while undergoing a curriculum change and the exciting process of a new educational facility. These programs were very exciting to me, since I brought strong project management experience from industry and brought multiple-layered projects successfully to completion.

Faculty Commons — 2012 – 2017. https://facultycommons.citytech.cuny.edu/about-us/commons-design-team/

Shortly after my appointment, I was given the opportunity to lead the student design team at Faculty Commons. Faculty Commons is the college’s help center for instructional staff. It offers a space where faculty can develop their vocation as teachers through a variety of pedagogical programs. The student design team provides creative services to the college and academic departments, helping them realize their visual materials, in both print and digital formats.

When I began as design director, I held a leadership role in the staffing, mentoring, coordinating of the team at Faculty Commons. I developed new communications products, and brought others to digital formats (Nucleus). I increased staff vitality by bringing advanced freshmen designers to work as interns and increased the team’s visibility and status in the college.

Toward the end of my tenure at Faculty Commons, I launched an initiative to exhibit faculty work on the walls of the Faculty Commons office, an endeavor I collaborated with Prof. Sandra Cheng of the Art History Department. Together, we curated, hung and supervised promotional materials for two faculty exhibitions: At Home and Bearing Witness. At Home featured the first-ever kinetic sculpture by Prof. Meryl Taradash while Bearing Witness featured the first-ever motion piece at FC by Prof. George Larkins, transmitted from a dedicated terminal.

The call for entries for At Home and Bearing Witness.
