According to an article “Teaching Math Using Technology” by David Moss, he explains how technology is useful for students, parents, and teachers to do math. In his article, he include many helpful websites that students and teachers can use in classroom or at home to enhance their understanding of mathematics. There are websites that offer teachers many lesson plans, however sometimes it is a kind of hard to determine the value of some lesson plans.
By reading this article, I found many websites that I think will be helpful for me and for my future students as well. I think it is a good idea to use some of these websites to help students understand mathematical concepts more because students currently engage better to the topic when they use technology. Also, students can have fun learning math by playing math game instead of playing any other game that is not useful.
yasmeen I think the article you choose its perfect one it shows how much technology help the student to a achieve . Kids need to enjoy learning and this is a very good chance to obtain . The article you choose discuss how much the technology is useful for teacher and student which is absolutely right . The article you choose also give many information about the wepsites which is great opportunity for the students to learn many things and have much fun.
I’m not familiar with this website, but it looks like it might be a fantastic resource for you all as future math teachers!
I have barely started reading the article and already one phrase has jumped out at me: “With so many options though, it is hard to find the good sites that teachers can use.” Indeed! This is the story of the internet! Everything is available at our fingertips, but how can we detect the signal when there’s all this noise? How can we find what resources are the ones we want to use? I’ll keep reading and hopefully the author will tell us!
Ah, I see…this article is essentially a list of online resources that the author found helpful. He’s not really telling us *how* to find the helpful resources—he’s just directing us to particular resources. While the resources themselves look pretty cool, the article doesn’t go into a lot of depth when it comes to*how* to determine when a resource is good. The author does quote some math education journal articles, which I like, though the quotes are somewhat vague. I would like more details about what in those articles guides the author to these particular resources! Luckily, the author includes a bibliography, so I can look up the journal articles (maybe these are good candidates for a future project this semester).
This article does give a good jumping off point for us to discuss: What makes an online resource for teachers *good*? What are some examples of *bad* ones? Is the distinction between good and bad absolute or is it case-specific?
Ah, here is one challenge: the computer I’m on right now does not have Java enabled! I clicked the link for the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives and it looks like I can’t access any of them right now. This is one reason I wish the article told me more about *why* this is a good resource.
I read the article about which you wrote the response, Yasmine. I agree that technology is very important in math, since we all are leaving in the century where the technology is very important. All of the websites that were mentioned on the article can be very helpful for the students. As we all know the majority of people learn things visually, It would be good if we as a future teacher use these websites to teach math. Maybe later on, students will not hate math as they do right know, and they may learn things quickly.Basically, they will be able to understand the importance of Math by doing math.
