Final exam review assignment

Part 1 post due Sunday, May 12

Part 2 comment due Sunday, May 19 (complete this part early!)

Part 3 comment due Sunday, May 19

Part 1

Post due Sunday, May 12

The final exam will cover all topics that we covered this semester. It will have 10 questions (some questions will have multiple parts). You can see the types of questions you’ll be asked on the final exam review sheet (you should become an expert on all question on the final exam review sheet) and on the Final Exam Review set in WeBWorK.

You might find the final exam is longer than our term tests, so you will want to practice completing problems as quickly as possible.

For Part 1 of the review assignment, you will make up your own final exam. Choose 10 questions from the review sheet or WeBWorK set (or make up your own!). If a question has a short solution, make it part (a) of a problem and choose another question with a short solution for part (b) (part (a) and part (b) need not be related). You will not solve your problems at this point.

Share your final exam as a post on the OpenLab. You can upload a photo of your hand-written set of questions or share a link to a Dropbox/Google Drive/etc where you have uploaded a photo.

Part 2

Comment due Sunday, May 19 (complete this part early)

Set a timer for 1 hour 40 minutes and put your phone away. Take out your calculator and some pieces of blank paper. Take one of your classmate’s practice finals as if it were the actual final exam. When the timer goes off, stop writing.

Upload a photo of your hand-written work the OpenLab media library/ Dropbox/Google Drive/etc and then copy-paste the link into a comment on your classmate’s post.

(You should actually give yourself several of your classmates’ practice exams to prepare for May 22! Taking practice exams will show you which topics you’re ready for and which ones you’ll need to practice more.)

Part 3

Comment due Sunday, May 19

For anyone who took the practice exam that you posted, look through their solutions and grade their exam. Assign a grade out of 10 for each problem (100 points total). Offer helpful suggestions about what parts were done well and what parts your classmate should practice more; correct any errors you catch. Be nice!

Test #3 Solutions

Post due Sunday, May 12

The instructions for the Test #3 solutions assignment are the same as those for the Test #1 and Test #2 solutions assignment. Your groups are the same; you already have each other’s emails. Coordinate with your group to determine who will submit solutions for which test questions. Ask your group for help solving the problems you had trouble solving. Reach out to group members to help them solve their problems.

Keep in mind that some of your group members may have already dropped the course.

For your individual post:

  • Title: Test #3 solutions problem #n (where n is the problem number you were assigned by your group)
  • Category: Test #3 solutions – Group m (where m is your group number)
  • In the body of your post, indicate which version of the test you are working from.

  • You should have received an email from the math department about a “reflection and support” module in WeBWorK. This is separate from your usual WeBWorK homework and will not impact your overall WeBWorK score, though it’s there to help you with the course material. When you click the link in the email and log in with the information you were sent, it will take you to a separate WeBWorK section with two sets. Complete both of the sets for five extra participation points (you’ll get the five extra points only if you complete both sets).
