Due Wednesday, May 22
Congratulations on making it to the end of the semester! Do you feel like a different person from who you were at the beginning of the semester??? You’re so much more knowledgeable and mature!
For this assignment, pretend you could get into a time machine and visit yourself from January. What do you know now that you wish you knew then? Write a letter to deliver to your past self explaining how this semester went for you and how you figured out what it takes to succeed in this class. Include any tips you have for your past self and anything you wish you had done differently semester this semester. How would you motivate your past self to work hard for their upcoming 17 weeks? What do you want your past self to know about where you are now?
Submit your letter as a comment on this post. Your letters may be used for future students of this class!
You may submit your comment any time you like, but if you submit it by 11:59pm on Wednesday, May 22, you will earn one more participation point.

Hello Past self its me from the future. Not that much has changed to be honest but at least you’re still handsome. Here are a couple of things you should do and please do them. First of all, I know it took you a while to log into open lab but please try your best to do it as early as you can. Not being able to track how many participation points you have is a pain. Next, I want you to click on the grades section in web work. I don’t know how but I didn’t know this existed until not too long ago so please do that. Itl will help you keep track of your webwork grade. Another thing is to go the teacher every time your having trouble with the web work. Some of them are an absolute pain no matter how hard you try so do that. All in all try and study a bit more and you’ll be fine.
Hello Francisco Cardenas. My name is Muhammad and I am a current student in MAT 1375. Your letter to yourself is helpful to me because it gives simple and honest advice that is easy to follow. I like how you remind yourself to log into OpenLab early so you can see your participation points, because that can help me stay organized. The tip about checking the grades section in WebWork is also helpful since it shows how I am doing and helps me avoid surprises. I also think your advice about going to the teacher for help is important, because some problems are really hard and asking questions can make them easier. This semester, I will check my grades more often, use OpenLab and WebWork correctly, and ask for help when I need it so I can do well in this class.
Hello Francisco! My name is Gabriel and I am a current student in MAT 1375. Your letter to yourself is helpful to me because I am retaking the course after not doing so well last time. Unlike last time, I’m not afraid to ask for help or study. I did not know about the grades tab on webwork despite it being there right in front of me. I agree with your point about asking the professor about any webworks you are having trouble with. I also feel like I need to study more because the course is different in where you most likely will have to do quite a bit of studying to succeed. Lastly, I should probably check frequently how many participation points I have just to be sure I’m ok.
Hello Francisco Cardenas. My name is Moses and I am a current student in MAT 1375. Your letter to yourself is helpful to because you acknowledge how you haven’t checked open lab and useful it would’ve been if you checked earlier. I just made an account and this made me realize that I need to be on top of my things really early so I am not stressing to make it to the deadline. I will be asking the professor if I ever have any questions about anything because I know how useful it will be to me towards the future.
hello past self, To be honest I don’t know what to say. I’m proud the fact you took the challenge to learn trigonometry again, I wish you’d did better on the first test but hey, you can’t be perfect you know. But I’m glad you took the step to comeback to strengthen your weaknesses. Also learn to study better!!!!!!
Hi past me, I want to say I am very proud of you for your dedication starting this semester. There will be a big curveball thrown your way at the very start and that is not your fault. Try your best to keep up with the assignments from home so that you are not completely behind. Do not lock yourself away and push forward!
Hello Marisa! My name is Brian and I am a current student in math 1375.Your letter to yourself is helpful to me because at the end you said “do not lock yourself away and push forward” and that sort of was a reminder to me that imma keep in my mind while going through this journey.
Well hello there my past self, I’m very proud of you actually getting work done this semester and being on top of WebWork as best as you could. If you could, maybe sometime earlier in the semester do 2-3 extra webworks to lessen the load for me right now. Review your notes and do extra practice problems to make sure the information sticks so review is actually review and definitely keep it up. You made it through one semester and I am very proud of you. Continue to grow, place more emphasis on studying and enjoy where the path takes you. Good luck!
Hey Hola, This is adrian, im currently in 1375 right now and just reading through yall’s letters to your past self. yours resonated with me, especially with what you said with giving yourself extra practice. Will def keep that in mind when i go through this semester. Thanks!
Hello hbhola! My name is Abdullah, and I am currently a student in MAT 1375. Your letter to yourself was really helpful because it reminded me how important it is to complete assignments on time. I also didn’t know that we could practice questions on WebWork, so thank you for sharing that tip. Practicing questions always helps me improve and excel in math.
Hi Hola, my name is Zayra and I’m currently taking MAT 1375 and reading what you wrote to your past self really stuck out to me. I found what you said about reviewing notes and to do extra practice problems so when the time comes for a review, it’s just a review helpful because I’m the type of person who needs to practice problems over and over again until it sticks with me. I will definitely be using that tip, thank you!
Wassup me from the past. Good job on making it this far. Make sure you take extra time out of your day to study and to complete webwork assignments. Good luck on the final test, your going to need it!
Hi Jahier! My name is Jaylin(she/her) and I am a current student in MAT 1375. Your letter to yourself is helpful to me because… I am definitely will take up your offer on completing the webwork assignments and getting done to get credit overall for the class. I take that very serious as well and most of definitely trying ace that final exam!!
Hello past self, I’m proud of you for making the decision to take this course and challenge yourself because I know math isn’t your strongest subject. I wish you would’ve studied a bit harder for your first exam but we learn and move forward!! I know all the exams seem intimidating but set aside some time every day to review everything you’ve learned and try to retain as much of it as possible. Don’t neglect your webwork assignments because they’re actually a great resource for studying. Continue to work hard and I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the semester!
Hello Katherine! My name is Grace and I am a current student in MAT 1375. Your letter to yourself is helpful to me because I feel like I don’t allocate as much time as I should into studying. The hardest part about studying for me is to actually start. Taking only a couple minutes a day instead of doing 3-hour long study sessions is much less daunting. Setting out times every day to study can help me build a consistent habit which will hopefully improve my grade.
Hello Katherine! I am Justino and I am currently taking MAT 1375. I found your letter to yourself to be very helpful to me since I can relate to you. Exams intimidate me, but if I set aside some time for studying like you said, I believe I should be able to do a great job! I will definitely check on webwork constantly for the homework as it can help me understand the topics even more. Thank you again!
I think that i would first tell my self to take the webwork serious. And what i would say to motivate myself is study hard because this is your future. I would want my pass self to that you are capable of learning the assignments and that you can do this. I think throughout the semester there was some points i just got lost but their was also some points that i found hope. And i should have just been confident in my abilities and throughout the class. But studying and doing work for the finals really helped me.
“Hello Virendra Mohandeo! My name is Mitchel Enoe and I am a current student in MAT 1375. Your letter to yourself is helpful to me because I’m re doing this class after not doing well in it the first time, coupled with the fact this is the first time I will have had web work assignment as apart of my class, I feel an understanding towards taking it seriously. I would also like to point how you were really transparent that it wasn’t always easy and you didn’t understand everything but pointing out it not always gonna be like that, which is something I sometimes forget when I’m in the thick of things. I plan to take your works and wisdom as a assistance for the future, thank you
Definitely would tell myself to start working from day one. Review the material daily because as we know, practice is crucial for success.
