Something I enjoyed about her writing was that she was straightforward about how she felt towards Cummin. Although her writing was aggressive Gurba did say how a white person shouldn’t write about Mexican people like that. It’s understandable how she felt because as a daughter who comes from Mexican parents, even I can’t say how they are or live because I’ve never experienced it. The only ones who truly understand are those who experience both American and Mexican lifestyle. Some things I would change were her word choice. Personally, I would be careful with my words since I wouldn’t like to offend anyone in any way but if it’s her way of showing emotion, then I say go for it. Gurba did explain how her roommate was basically mocking her by wearing her clothes which I thought was unacceptable. My question to her was how does she handle oppression? Did she ever talk to someone about what happened with Martinez?

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

I agree with you because you cannot speak about someone’s culture and the way they grew up if you did not grow up in the same upbringings.
I agree with you that she would change her word choice. firstly I also thought the same because not every writer uses that word in their writing but after I fined her reading her work, my opinion definitely changed about her writing. I think the words that Gurba used were correct as her arguments towards negative people.
