Samira has been trying to contact Earth for years now. She was left behind on a space trip a couple of years ago when NASA assigned her a mission to explore a newly discovered planet. Her crew thought she died but, that proves to not be true.
In a few years she was able to do a lot of this planet. She was able to build a dome that produces oxygen for her to breath, she found a way to transform dirt into water, and build her own pet dog from nothing but scrap metal. Her next big invention was an intergalactic box that could travel the galaxy and signal people that she was left behind. She was able to input a navigation system inside the box and with that, she inputted the coordinates to NASA headquarters. It was also powered with high speed boosters that could travel a mile a minute. “Isn’t this great buddy?”, she whispered to her dog. “I can finally go home soon!” Her dog jumped up and they danced in excitement that Samira could one day be able to go home.
At the end of the night, Samira sent the box on its way to Earth. “Seeya! Try to find us some help, okay?” After she sent the box off, Samira headed straight for bed. In a few days, her crew was able to find her! They jumped with joy and apologized to Samira for leaving her behind. It was a guilt that they always lived with. “Ah don’t worry about it, yea. I’ve learned a lot here living on my own and this is something I would’ve never experienced if I went back home right away.” Samira laughed and shrugged it off. Not only was she able to get home but for her amazing inventions, she was offered a promotion at NASA when she arrived!
I really like how you could sense the character really wanting to go back home, but she isnt wasting her time while she waits. It makes me want to know what this intergalactic box looks like or her scrap metal dog.
Your story was a joy to read. It reminded me of ‘The Martian’ with Matt Damon when he was stuck on Mars. Sure Samira was in a much better position, but what helped you think of this idea?
I really enjoyed your creativity. I feel like this could be a scene in a movie. It’s great to see how optimistic your character was as well despite being stuck on a planet for so long.
The Creativity was great and I enjoyed every bit of it. I can tell you were glowing with your thoughts. I also enjoyed the productivity of the character wanting to go home but also wanting to do something while she waits.
