City Tech is closed on Tuesday, September 7, so we aren’t meeting online either, but, there’s homework this week!

On Thursday, September 9, please do the following by 11:59 PM:

WORKSHOP:

  • Read my Announcement.
  • Email the link to your “Meet My _____” to your assigned Cohort.
  • “Who’s in my Cohort?” you may be asking. Here’s the answer: I emailed the Cohort lists to your City Tech email (or whatever you put as your prime email on CUNYfirst). Be sure to check your spam folder if you don’t find something from creative.writing.citytech2@gmail.com. The title of the document is “ENG1141 Cohort List, Fall 2021.” If it isn’t there (and really check), email me and I’ll send it again.
    • If you don’t see your name on the list, that means you haven’t published a “Meet My ____” or I couldn’t find it on the site.
    • In order to be placed in a Cohort and earn points toward your overall grade, (critiques of your Cohort’s work are worth 10% of your grade and posting writing assignments are worth 20% of your grade) you need to post a “Meet My ___” by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, September 8 and email me the link. I will then assign you to a Cohort.
  • Respond to each of your Cohort members’ work using the Meet My X Critique worksheet that’s on the Course Profile and email the responses to me (at creative.writing.citytech2@gmail.com) and your Cohort by class time on Tuesday, September 14.
  • Write Journal Assignment 1: Using Patchett’s work in Truth & Beauty as an example, write about a friendship that has been significant to you. Answer the following questions: Who is it? How did you meet? Why are they important to you?
  • Post under Journals. Be sure to write the following in the title: Your Full Name, Journal 1.

If you have questions, need help with anything, I’m holding Office Hours on Thursday, from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. If that doesn’t work for you, let me know and we can work out a different time.

By class time on Tuesday, September 14, 2021:

READ/DISCUSS:

  • Before class, be sure to email your critique to me and your Cohort.
  • Before class, read Anonymous’ â€śWhatever Happened to _______?”
  • I’ll lead a discussion on “Now what?” and what to do with critiques–when to take advice and when to blow it off.

Homework:

  • Revise “Meet My _____” for my evaluation. Post it under Memoir (note this is a different category than it was originally posted) by 11:59 PM on Thursday, September 16.
  • A critique of Anonymous’ work. What did you enjoy about the work? What questions do you have for the author? Post it under Discussions. Title it Full Name, Anonymous’ Critique. Critiques are due by class time on September 21.
