When you take an English or literature class you never tend to write anything personal or creatively. How my classes were in my experience was I was assigned to read boring literature overall things I didn’t find interesting and then I was assigned to write an analysis on it. Since I get to choose my classes, I don’t feel this way. I’ve read memoirs before but never written one. I really enjoy writing these memoirs because I get to reflect on something in my life and share it with others. I like reflecting back on things I experienced and when I am writing them it doesn’t feel like a chore, unlike other classes I’ve taken. I also feel somewhat comfortable sharing these as well because we don’t present out loud. If we had I would be more uncomfortable and nervous when sharing, but due to the Pandemic, I don’t have this fear. If this class had to be done in person that’s naturally I’d be nervous. I like writing more freely and this class overall helps. My favorite memoir I’ve written so far was is the “anonymous” memoir because I never reflected on it or told anyone so it was sort of exciting to share. I also enjoy reading people’s memoirs as well because we get to learn more about our classmates this way. I don’t mind receiving feedback because it ends up being beneficial. Prior to this class, I have never written a memoir, so this is a new experience and I enjoy it and look forward to writing and reading more.
