After much deciding and thinking in regards to the upcoming assignment, I have decided to go with writing a speech. According to what I’m writing about, I believe a speech fits the most with my discourse community and would make a better argument compared to a letter. My discourse community would primarily deal with a crowd, hence is why I chose using a speech format in writing my assignment. My discourse community deals with the gaming community and the problems a lot of people, mostly adults and parents, have against this specific community. I believe there is a lot of misconception made about this genre and the people that belong too it such as I.

Using this genre of my speech, I can create a valid argument to the opposing side and provide evidence as to why I feel this way. As I previously stated, since there are many instances of misinformation that are centered around this genre, structuring the argument will be simple with the valid points I am able to format. The genre will aim primarily to persuade my audience too take a different view on what my discourse community stands for and what many things are achievable by it.

My discourse community appeals specifically towards adults, (mostly parents), who are against video games and are led to believe that they are useless. In my speech, my attention will be focused towards navigating those parents and adults who think negatively about this genre and show a profound amount of knowledge that my audience might not know. Much of my audience may believe for me to be unknowledgeable about my own genre. While this may seem like the proper response due to the fact my immaturity as a teenager compared to the life experiences of a parent, it does not mean that I am incapable of knowing the pros of my own genre and outweigh the negatives.

Bottom line of my speech will consist of persuading my audience towards understanding why my discourse community is a positive aspect in ones environment. My main argument will be to support my stance on video games and gaming community to show why the genre isn’t all that bad.
