Hey dear reader,

I am Chhring Sherpa from Nepal, currently living in the United States and attending New York City College of Technology in NYC. I’m majoring in Computer information systems (CST). I’m writing this letter to prepare you for the English course that I was taking this semester. So the English course that I’m taking is called ENg1121 which is a college-level English course that includes writing, reading, etc. Since I took the class online due to the current Covid pandemic and if you’re thinking about taking the course online, you need to expect weekly homework that is due at the end of the day of the class or perhaps the end of the week. The homework is basically about the unit that your course is going through, perhaps for Unit 1 which is ‘Discourse community’, you will be getting homework that is eventually connected to your final writing assignment for the unit or some small activity that is related to the Unit. In Unit 1 we covered the ‘discourse community’, Unit 2 ‘Annotated bibliography’, Unit 3 ‘Multimodal project’ , Final reflection and Final portfolio which basically contains the final assignment for every unit including some small activities and final reflection.

The most exciting unit throughout the journey for me was Unit 3 ‘Multimodal project’ in which the students have to create a multimodal that includes pictures, words, videos, or audios. This Unit has stayed with me since it is all about your creativity and includes lot of artworks. If you’re an artist as me then I’m sure you will also love to work on this Unit.

The experience of learning online is basically boring but you can also have fun doing the assignments for this course since the assignments are not that hard and if you are a writer and who likes to write a lot then the assignments are just like writing a journal. The most important factor of these assignments is that the assignments that are given are mostly connected to your Unit’s final writing assignments which can help you in future for things like brainstorming and completing on time even if you have works from your other courses.

This class helped me a lot to be a better writer, reader, and comprehending the writings since it contains assignments and final works that are not only about the essay but also about thinking and understanding the content. This course forces you more about how to be better at critical thinking and also the main thing; what is the piece conveying to us and to convey our own understanding to them. Nevertheless, if you’re trying to take this course for next or upcoming semester, this course is a must since it helps you not only in writing an essay but to be a better critical thinker ahead.

Sincerely,

Chhring N Sherpa
