The discourse community that would benefit from my Annotated bibliography is immigrant kids, especially those who immigrated from Muslim countries and immigrant parents. I think people who are in that situation don’t necessarily know that it’s bad or harmful in the long run, they just try to do the best they can with the knowledge they have. I believe that children who migrate at a young age and get to experience American life want different things than from what is in their parent’s comfort zone. Even though what the kids want isn’t extreme it raises a conflict between them and their parents because their parents don’t know any better and they so desperately want to hold on to the culture they brought over that they lose sight of the harm being done to their relationship with their kids. This discourse community can benefit from this information by starting with accepting that there is a communication gap. By accepting that there is a problem that needs to be fixed. After the issue has been addressed and accepted by both sides then both parents and children can come up with a middle ground as to what is allowed and what is not considering religious and cultural values. The best method to reach out to this community is by incorporating modern religious scholars who understand both sides into religious TED talks because a lot of the Muslim community relies on these religious scholars to decipher the religious teachings for them so they can follow the religion correctly. So incorporating modern religious scholars would be the best possible way for immigrant families to reach a middle ground without being extreme on either end.
