Part-1
I have gained a lot this semester. As a reader, I have learned from many articles, and have read the writing styles of different times, places and writers. What impressed me were John Swales, “Reflections on the Concept of Discourse Community” in Unit 1, Douglas’s speech in Unit 2, and Chelsea Harrison, “College Students and Social Media” in Unit 3. “Reflections on the Concept of Discourse Community” is the first reading article of this course. I learned the concept of discourse community (DC) in this article. I have read this article more than ten times, and some parts that I didn’t understand at the beginning can be understood by reading it over and over again. It provides great support for my unit 1 writing assignment. As an author, I wrote three main papers and many short paragraphs this semester. Every micro-activity and discussion questions improved my writing skill. I learned a lot through the unit 2 writing assignments, which is Annotated Bibliography. I didn’t know what Annotated Bibliography was before, and with the help of the professor, I successfully completed my first Annotated Bibliography. As a scholar, I learned more knowledge and writing skills. In the past, I would only write traditional academic papers, which are simple templates that only have introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion. But in unit 3, I found that the format of Multimodal can convey ideas more effectively than traditional writing. In this project, I used a lot of text, pictures, and related videos, and then put them together in my Powerpoint. As a reader and writer, I have changed and developed a lot. I improved my ability to find information, summarize and cite. Through the communication with my classmates in peer review, I have learned new perspectives and ideas.

Part-2
I will pick “Micro-Activity #6: Responding to Wollstonecraft” and “Micro-Activity #15: Reflecting on the Research Process”. A Vindication of the Rights of Woman written by the 18th-century British protofeminist Mary Wollstonecraft, is one of the earliest works of feminist philosophy. This article is very long. The question “Does the recipient appear to be a part of this DC or outside of it?” in this assignment made me struggle. I believe that Wollstonecraft is a part of the Rights of Woman DC, but I am not sure that the recipient, Talleyrand-PĂ©rigord, was a part of this DC. Also, in this micro activity we need to find two writing strategies that Wollstonecraft used in the article. Two writing strategies I found were parallel structure and searching-selecting. It is very helpful to me because I have used these writing strategies in my following essay. By using these writing strategies The structure of my article has become clearer and the content is more convincing. Micro-Activity #15 Let us reflect on the research process. The process was not easy, when I was doing Annotated Bibliography research, I found it is difficult to find the sources I need. We got to have three sources and all these sources must be of three distinct genres or media. In the process of searching sources, I found a lot of sources at the beginning, but I abandoned most of them. The main reason is that some sources are not authoritative enough, and some are the same genres. I used to write essays using only one type of source, but now I have learned to use multiple types of sources to prove my point in different ways.
