Joe Mastrota Micro Activity #8

I was pleased with my choice, and the time I spent at the beginning of the course to think about it. I chose something that I compare to as being admissible in court. It’s current, authentic, complete, reliable and believable. Regardless of my performance addressing my views on the issue, it is something that is worth exploring in a lively discourse. There are many issues to be addressed and it is so content rich. I knew I would not have a loss for words, but what to extract from the massive content, to put into words to make a point.

I have to say it was Councilwoman’s Ocasio-Ortez speech that I listened to and took inspiration from in its delivery. I also wanted to include the perception of insult and anger in my content. It was designed for some paragraphs to be delivered forcefully as she had done.

It was also Councilwoman Ocasio-Ortez speech I struggled with. I had to take frequent breaks to remain unbiased and push away my own personal dislike for this legislator. And read and listen to the speech solely for its’s construction and delivery. My desire, only being, to learn her technique which I have to say is effective.

With 24hrs only, I would put on paper immediately the most important ideas. Then spend time making sure there are no critical faux pas that would be embarrassing or subject to misinterpretation. The time remaining, due to the constraint, I would prepare index cards of bullet statements or quick facts. These notes can be employed anywhere in the delivery, so I could react to the reaction of the audience with something readily at hand.
