The issue affecting a lot in my discourse community is depression. I noticed in my community that when people are mentally affected or not in their stable mind they feel ashamed to talk about it or they are not comfortable enough. I noticed that whenever they are upset or not being themselves they sort of hide the topic thinking what others will think. In my community one of my professors talks about this issue called depression and how it is so important to discuss. She would give her own life examples to make it seem to others that it is normal to raise your voice for that. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, it is good to talk about depression because it helps you overcome your fear and encourages you to seek help. I want to tell everyone not just people with depression, that depression is not a type of disease where you can lose your hope. You can get through this if you discuss it. In the article The Effects of Depression in Your Body explains depression can affect you in many different ways such as headaches, body pain and many more that we do not want to experience in our life. That’s why it’s always best to seek guidance from whoever you are most compatible with. If you feel like there’s no one who can understand or if you want to share your problems with someone anonymously there’s this place called Ny Project Hope who will help you to cope with your problems. Not only that they will find you ways or different activities that will help reduce your depression. To conclude, to help yourself overcome depression seek for help, fight with your fear and at the end of the day you will see the better version of yourself.
