One problem we face at work is not having enough hours. Everyone gets upset that we only get two days 4-hour shifts. Even as a student this is way too little to cover for expenses and bills. This was addressed to the manager, and he claims he has low payroll and hours are based on performance. However, he continues to hire new people claiming he needs them for availability when people call out. It is a very minimal issue and may be solved by getting another job but it’s hard. When you want to talk to this manger too, he can be very mean and not comfortable to speak to. It can also be difficult when customers are yelling at us and getting mad when the line is too long. There are usually only 2 cashiers on the floor 1 main and 1 backup. The mangers push the main cashier to go faster to speed up the line and limit the use of calling the backup. This is because the backup must pack out, and if the backup doesn’t end up packing out a certain number of boxes it looks bad on them. Managers get frustrated and sometimes even stay off the clock to complete tasks. There needs to be more rules in place and management needs to understand the store gets busy. Especially since the holidays are near, they should put more people ringing or as backups, so customers don’t get agitated. It’s the cashier who must deal with customers constantly screaming at them.
