The allegory of the cave as a whole is a colossal excerpt of a metaphor to show how us as humans learn new knowledge. It goes on to explain how certain difference in who we are learning from, and difference’s in our environment can change how we perceive the world and its values as a whole. For what’s going on in this situation is that various prisoners are chained to a cave in which their hands, legs, and necks are binded making it impossible to move or see anything behind them. A small fire is placed behind them which illuminates the cave enough for the shadows of things passing by to then show the prisoners forcing them to believe that the shadows is what they are really seeing. Eventually one prisoner is set free to go see the world for what it is and upon coming back to educate his companions, they choose to instead call him crazy wanting to remain complacent with their ignorance. Thus to show a reflection of real education.
