ON TUESDAY, December 3rd, we were able to make some solid progress with the submarine, although there is still quite a ways to go. The exterior hull is complete (sanded, supports bonded etc.) and we are now moving to attaching the interior components, beginning with the push rods. Although the instructions seemed simple enough, it was actually quite difficult to bend the thin brass rods into the correct shape and solder the tightly fitting brass coupling over them. Since there was virtually no space between the coupling and the rod, the solder had to be razor-thin and applied perfectly otherwise you couldn’t slide it over. Other than that, things proceeded as planned and we set aside some time for this coming Saturday to come in and work.
