MEETING NOTES

  • Questions/Challenges
    • Question for the group: Messaging on OL
      • Corey – wasn’t aware you could send messages
      • In general, no-one was aware this exists!
      • Do you see value in having messaging here?
        • Janieca: I think messages can be useful – but you don’t know how often someone is using OL, if they have it delivered to their email, etc. Will this be the fastest way to contact somebody?
        • Saria: since not a lot of people use OL, they would have to check their citytech email to get the notification – it’s an extra step to get a message
        • Saria: it would be useful if you don’t have contact info for that person – you could reach out to them here.
        • Shabaj: is messaging for every member? or only students? If professors who use OL tell their students they can use OL to communicate, this would help.
    • Question for the group: in ePortfolios – how do you communicate to students about the Process Journal?
      • Shabaj: should everyone who uses ePortfolios have that section?
      • Darren: when we create template, need to make it consistent. Navigation & hamburger menu – more than one place for something?
      • Shabaj: think about wording/branding. Maybe “Journey”? for “course journal” people think about what you did for that course. Could include material in the Buzz or Help about what it is, how is it beneficial?
      • Jody: In the research template, I think it’s “research blog”?
      • Darren & Shabaj – as you’re evaluating templates, might want to give some feedback on this (sample journal entries in each template, etc)
  • Activities
    • Project Updates: (talking through project outline Google Doc)
      • Shabaj & Darren:
        • Research report – have already started on this, but there is more to do
        • Spec for new template
          • is there a theme that makes sense? Might want to collaborate with Saria & Lyonel
        • Consider thinking broadly about groups — might not just be departments, might be another group such as Beginner Users
        • Template Chooser interface
      • Saria & Lyonel:
        • Project outline review
        • Saria: so far have been doing testing for the themes we are looking at.
        • Have more than 5 themes but will narrow it down
        • They created a google doc for evaluating themes (add a link)
        • Lyonel: was trying to do testing, but URL to portfolio doesn’t work with accessibility tools (b/c dev login required). So created his own install of CBOX-OL – had issue setting up new subdomain.
        • For Accessibility, can also activate the Editoria11y plugin
        • Saria: tried WAVE checker but always gave same error. Will investigate.
      • Janieca & Corey:
        • What’s the Buzz vs Did You Know
        • Screens: Evergreen content
