I think it’s easy for civilizations to use theatrical performances to change society. Theater in itself is an art form, art can be and usually is a reflection of society which can bring about change within it or change within one’s self. Thus it is easy for theatrical performances to bring change to a society since that is something intrinsic to art which theater, acting and performing is. To add most art forms like theater served a utilitarian purpose when they were initially introduced theater was mainly in ancient Greece was mainly used to celebrate culture during festivals and worship their deities. In that sense theatre very purpose to their culture overall and their identity as a civilization further making the case that theatre can easily change a society.
