My Dream Career

Growing up as children, we are asked the question of “What is your dream?” or “What do you want to be when we grow up?”. We respond with things like dentist, doctor, president, astronaut etc. However, it comes to a point where we reach high school and start becoming more mature and responsible young adults and finding out what our passions are and what career we would like to pursue in the future. I never knew I would find interest in the field of architecture until after graduating from high school. Most of my friends were into things like becoming a professor, nurse, accountant and other careers. However, those weren’t really my interests. Growing up I was always surrounded by technology and computers and video games. Not only did I enjoy gaming as a hobby and a passion, but it also gave me an interest to learn more about computers and technology. While in high school, during the weekends, I would enjoy going out to the city and visit different buildings with my friends. Looking at the level of detail and materials that were used and how the layout of the rooms were gave me an introduction to architecture.

Throughout my 4 years of being an architecture student and learning new things that I did not know before. Interior designer has sparked my interest the most of what I want to pursue as a career. Other students choose drawing or drafting. However, I have practiced sketching a lot in my 4 years and a little during my free time outside of school. Drafting and sketching is not a strength of mine. Interior design speaks more to me. Not only getting to decide on the layout and making the building or house more brighter and elegant, but rendering and adding materials is very exciting. Another thing that got me interested in Interior design is watching shows on the HGTV like Fixer Upper and others. The shows include how the furnish and decorate the room as well as selecting the materials and show renderings too. In Design 5 you are also taught about interior design and that class also got my interest. My professor loved both my projects and I displayed my creativity and ideas really well. Hopefully after graduating in June, I will be able to find starting jobs that are computer based and then later move up to working in a firm. Interior design is something I know I will enjoy for many years and later teach my experience to the newcomers in the future

My Dream Career

The position I would like to hold in the building industry would be that of an architect with extensive knowledge in the field of construction management which by understanding what actually goes on the site, the work produced by me would be much more efficient and would also prove to be a valuable skill to have under my belt when it comes to preparing myself for the future that is to come. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, An Architect is a person who designs buildings and advises in their construction and is also a person who designs and guides a plan or undertaking.

Been an architect would be my dream job for a number of reasons, one being that it had been my best choice because I was was stuck between choosing Engineering which has to do with the building of things and a lot of specific calculation to be sure that the building could withstand whatever was thrown at it by nature and been a Doctor which helped in making people feel better. So I found a way to do both things that I was interested in and combined it into one thing which was architecture. Although studying architecture can be quite stressful and be full of deadlines but so if everything important in life but it is also something that interests me a lot while also exposing me to the realities of life through the experiences of my professors and mentors around.  Been an Architect also helps me in catering to the needs of my clients by not only listening to them but also understanding what it is that they need in other to provide to them spaces that would help in increasing the quaily of life as a person. Although it can be time-consuming it made me understand that people will make time for what they want to make time for.

Dream Career

Mahamadou Abdou

You could say as a child, I had many dream careers I wanted to purse. One being to play basketball in NBA. It wasn’t until middle school; I developed a talent in drawing and love for art. I didn’t enjoy writing, so I found a way to project my ideas by illustrating them on paper. Even though I enjoyed playing basketball it seemed to be something I always done for fun and that I could do more. Growing up I didn’t expect architecture to become an interest until senior year high school. My high school specialized in architecture and engineering. I was introduced to architectural projects and programs such as Autocad and Revit, which piqued my interest. I was amazed at with how our ideas developed into a finished project. Once in college I learned more about architecture and how broad it its.

I really don’t know what I want my dream career to be. But if I was to choose right now it would be between interior design or being a project manager. Even though I don’t have much experience in both it’s been an interest of mine ever since I started college. I would like to use what I learn about interior design and construction to apply that knowledge in the field. My creativity and design ideas would be displayed in my future projects. Finishing college with my bachelor’s degree currently is my top priority. Also, I would like to apply for internships to gain more experience so that when I graduate, I can find a job or position at a firm. To me my dream career is something that I will enjoy waking up to every day.
