Fire Protection – Case 54

In this case study, there is only 2 weeks left to turnover the building and a lot of the inspections have been completed and passed. As the work was being done they realize that the subcontractor has been installing different sprinkler heads on every floor for the three floors of the building. Since there is only two weeks left till completion, the two options I came up with is either they convince the owner that the sprinkler heads are up to code and will get the job done even though it is not the ones that were initially picked.  The other option is that the Contractor and sub contractor comes together to figure out who is going to redo all the sprinkler heads, which will take more time and money to complete. This error falls on the GC because its the general contractors job to make sure the job is running smooth and correctly. If the GC hires a sub contractor to do the job, it is his/her responsibility to check on the subs work. So the owner should not have to pay for any changes if the work was clarified in the drawings.

Architectural License

Devan Ramcharan

Starting my senior year i have met a lot of people in school and out of school and talking to them about the future of my career has brought me to a decision to not aim for the architectural license. Although it was be a great tool to have, I have began realizing that making a move to the construction side of the job would be more beneficial for me. I would love designing residential housing and complexes on my own but that will come with time and experience. By working on getting a masters in Construction Management and getting a internship, it may still count towards the experience i need to get my license later on while I work my way up in the construction field. The goal is not to become a RA but to become to owner of my own construction company or a project manager for multiple buildings. Becoming a RA is a long term goal of mine once I get enough experience in the field and make a steady living then I can focus on getting the license after and hopefully start a firm while having my own construction company to do the work.

Dream Job

Growing up in a family that has a lot of background in different fields, Architecture has caught my attention the most. I have family that does Electrical, Hvac, carpentry, plumbing, and elevator mechanics. My dad has successfully learned and is able to understand the basics in all these different trades, which has slowly been passed down to me through the years. Having watched my dad build and remodel houses or even work on our home I started becoming more interested in how he is doing it. The more I became curious in High school the more I wanted to learn when I got to college which is why I started architecture and it has taught me a lot.

For my dream job I would love to be either a construction manager or a project manager. When I first started college I was set on graduating and being a designer with my own firm, but the more I grew and learned about the field, I learned that becoming an R.A. is not everything. I decided to look into other options in the same trade and I found out about construction management. Construction Management is my dream job by being able to run jobs and eventually own my own construction company. Having a Architecture degree will help me in the future goal by giving me a strong understanding of what is needed to have a successful structure. By understanding the basics of everyone’s jobs i would be able to communicate and come up with solutions that will make the projects more efficient and save money. I can use my experience and education to help out in whatever way I can to make the projects easier for everyone. Owning my own construction company in NYC is the goal and I will strive to learn as much as I can in every field as my dad did and be able to run my company confident.
