“Usain Bolt’s Split Times and the Power of Calculus”

We will be discussing this very nice essay by Cornell mathematician Steven Strogatz in class, in order to illustrate the concepts of average velocity and instantaneous velocity (i.e., the derivative of position with respect to time!)

So, please try to read the article over the next couple weeks:

(Note: the essay is an excerpt from Strogatz’s 2019 book Infinite Powers: How Calculus Reveals the Secrets of the Universe. I highly recommend reading this book as you take calculus!)
