My Research Question: How has Afrobeats grown globally?
For my Unit 3 project I am thinking about a video essay or a collection of songs. With my topic being on Afrobeat music I think it only makes sense for my project to be based around the music. In the video essay I would speak on the history of Afrobeats and its growth via voiceover. I’d include pictures of a number of artists along with their music playing in the background. Everyone from the creator of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti, to the newest artist of today would be included. If I were to choose the collection of songs, that would be entirely made up of songs from key artists in Afrobeat history. Instead of a voiceover, I’d simply have words on the screen for the audience to read. These two genres would work well with my research because it allows the audience a chance to hear exactly what Afrobeat music sounds like. The audience will be able to see the artist and hear their music, this will be great for me speaking on the globalization of Afrobeats. The audience will hear the difference and similarities between Afrobeat music and Afrobeats music and how it correlates to the modern day genre of Afrobeats today.
