Outline & Opening

  1. I will use the Mentor Quote prompt and between two world.
  2. The main idea of my education narrative will show the struggle I have and without my parents being with me and my grandfather teaching me ways about life.

“Education is the only way out in life” – Grandfather

September 5, 2011, was the day I arrived in America at the age of 8. At the airport, I noticed some people had ripped jeans and spoke another language, and I found the ripped jeans to be weird since I had never seen people wear them before. Then I heard my parent say “快点!” (hurry up) and told me that we were leaving the airport soon. By the time we were out of the airport, I was exhausted and just wanted to get some rest.

2-3 days later my parents would take me to my new school PS.20 at Delancey. At the office, there were a lot of desks alongside many teachers walking around with files. I was facing down and heard my parents talking to this tall white lady with a Chinese translator next to her. I would hear them mention that I should have been in third grade but will be forced to go back one grade because of the language barrier. My parents have seemed to agree with the tall white lady (principal) that I will be entering second grade and participating in the ESL program. My mom tells me to “留下” (stay or stay here) and that I will be trying out my class.

  1. Good start! Good CSD!

Follow HW instructions — Where is your outline? What are the events that you will include? These should be important events that move your story forward.
