Mentor Quote- Matthew Gonzalez

” If you don’t act soon, it will become too late for you to succeed” This is something that Mr. Brown all the time. But it was towards the end of my sophomore year of high school that it really stood out to me. I was always being told that if I just apply myself I can be a solid A student, but I never saw a reason to ever reach that far. I was always contempt with just passing by or a lot of the time not even doing the bare minimum. I was letting my future slip through my fingers when all I had to do was grab it. He kept telling me that this time that we have is shorter than you think. And not to just be idle in your own life. It was when he told me that you are the maker of your future that started to make me think differently about how to treat my education.

He really changed my way of thinking, telling me ways to really take control of the situation around me. Surround yourself with the people you want to become, to set yourself with people you want to be. To push yourself to be the best in your education not for anyone else but yourself. That you should prove to yourself that you can do it, to have the confidence to get what you deserve. I’ve come to understand that it’s better to be open  about one’s challenges and as a result, even in the face of difficult challenges, I am able to take on my education with more conviction.

  1. OK good choice of words from Mr. Brown. But you notice that you are doing a lot of telling. INSTEAD SHOW ME. WHere? In the counselor’s office? In the math classroom? Who exactly is Mr. Brown. What does he teacher? WHY was he telling you this? What was the situation — you were missing class a lot, failng a social studies exam? YOU NEED DETAILS.
