My research question is: Why is NYC’s public transportation system so poorly maintained? This topic interests me because I utilize the NYC Transit system daily to commute. For example, I rely on public transportation to get to school, special events, and to explore the city. I already know that the current transportation system is enormous, but it is constantly interrupted with delays and unkept vehicles. In order to keep up with the high demand, constant maintenance must occur. There is a great number of patrons using the NYC public transportation, myself included, and I want to find out how the current management is tending to concerns from riders. Additionally, I want to find out how allocation of funding affects ridership. And lastly, I want to find out how past decisions affect the altering future.
