Reading Response to Malcolm X – Jason Abreu

Part B:

“But bending my knees to pray — that act — well, that took me a weck. You know what my life had been. Picking a lock to rob someone’s house was the only way my knees had ever been bent before. I had to force myself to bend my knees. And waves of shame and embarrassment would force me back up.”

Malcolm is expressing his pain, expressing all the harem that he had committed. His past life hunts him, he feels uncomfortable with himself. Taking a knee felt like picking locks. He felt all the embarrassment hit all at once when he Tried to turn to god, but he felt unworthy.

    Wow — excellent annotations!

Good explanation. I would add tgo the explanation part that praying to God made him realize that now he feels shame at all the things he had done in his past life as a street hustler. He felt he was not worthy of praying and asking for God’s forgiveness.

LATE WORK — downgraded for lateness, but otherwise good work!
