The most interesting conclusion that Martin drew was the concept of having community control and participation in obtaining new research. After reading his text this made sense considering the amount of private/ government funding that goes into most big name research. It is easy for statisticians to skew numbers, graphs, and general information to favor one opinion or another. It is always extremely difficult for a layman to navigate through any type of specific journal which, as Martin suggested, may be a way of keeping specialists specialized. Swartz may have in fact been completing this very theory when he downloaded 4 million articles from JSTOR. He may have been wanting to spread free knowledge to the common person so that they could communicate their opinions, ideas, and solutions with the experts. With the new wealth of free flowing knowledge would come the burden of gate keeping to ensure that the information is correct and being utilized properly.
