Greetings, my name is Devir Shriky and Welcome to my section of COMD 1112, Digital Media Foundations. The image above is from a recent Photoville exhibit, which is part of the NYC Arts in the Park Program. The photo of the header in for this class is of Sol Levitt’s Wall Mural at the Columbus Ave Station. Do you see any similarities between Belonging and Sol LeWitt’s work? Later in this class, we will be taking a look at Sol Lewitt’s work a bit more closely using digital technology available for free.
Even if you are not yet comfortable attending museums indoors, there is art in NYC to be viewed outdoors and some of it might near your neighborhood. Here is a virtual look at some of the outdoor art that you can see around town right now:
The images you see of the artworks above are digital photos of physical art that I encourage you to visit when you can. Each week, we will be discussing key aspects of the communication design industry. During our first class together, we will review together some examples of different areas of visual communications.
We will also review the policies of this course and the department, the syllabus, this open lab site, as well as our blackboard classroom site.
I’ll be asking you to introduce yourself to your classmates and tell me a bit about your background and how you came to be here at CityTech. I’ll also return the favor and provide you some information about my background.
Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions after our class today. I can be reached via email at tgoetz@verizon.net and my office hours are posted on this site.
