Class Info
- Dates: Wednesday, 11/3-Tuesday, 11/9
- Meeting Info:
- For the synchronous sessions, we will meet on Tuesday, 11/9, 12:00-1:40pm via Zoom and share notes in a shared document.
- For the other class meeting time, which would have been 100 minutes long, you will do your work throughout the week asynchronously, on your own time. This work and homework are indistinguishable but all contribute to your informal work for the semester.
- Work will be due during the week as noted in the weekly agenda, usually with Monday mornings as a deadline to join a discussion so we all have time to read an respond to each other.

We will continue to explore our interests and learn more about developing our research questions, researching topics, and using the library.
Actions
If you have not yet chosen a topic, please choose one! If you have extra topics, please share them with your classmates! I will also contribute some possible topics. Please meet with me in student support hours (aka office hours) if you want to work on developing your topic, research question, research, or annotated bibliography.
Reading
- Research for Project #2
- Prof. Rosen’s sample annotated bibliography draft, “Should restaurants buy local?“
- Emily A. Wierszewski’s “Research Starts with A Thesis Statement” in Bad Ideas About Writing, pp 231-235
- Texas A&M University Writing Center, “Ethos, Pathos & Logos
- your classmates’ writing for Project #2
Writing
- Continue to contribute to our discussions about crowdsourcing hospitality resources–these can give us good ideas about where to look for sources! Remember that your sources need to represent a varity of genres, so an Instagram post, a Twitter thread, a food blog, a travel video on TikTok are sources you can use in addition to the more familiar newspaper article, magazine article, scholarly journal article, TED talk, etc.
- Continue working on your annotated bibliographies. Share what you’re up to (or what you’re stuck on) in this week’s discussion. Also in this discussion, please share any viable topics or research questions that you decided not to pursue–maybe someone who is stuck will get unstuck with your unused topic!
- Add another entry to our shared glossary (according to the glossary instructions). Think if there’s a word from our current readings or from your research that you want to add.
