Homework2

In the articles ‘’You Already an Author’’Mike Burns explains how we become an author by using your idea or knowledge to create our own story. Also, he mentioned that our story expresses our emotion, point of view about a situation or story. As an example, if a group of students has to discuss one subject each of them will provide a different idea, which means each of them is an author of their writing. Furthermore, he describes the language he uses for different categories. For example, He knows the way he speaks to his boss is not the same as he speaks to his friend.

At this point, I think I am an author because when it comes to writing an essay or research paper I  always have to express myself by using my own story and sometimes create one. This is the best way to attract the reader’s attention and make the writing interesting so the reader could learn something about it. Also, I always have a great vocabulary to impress the reader and make the writing clear and understandable. All those things contribute to making myself an author. However, when it comes to texting it is different because I don’t create a story. It’s mostly a conversation between one or a group of people. In this part, I used different vocabulary and slang to impress the reader’s attention. for sure you are the author of what you texting to your partner because we both express different ideas and points of view about things. However, despite using different kinds of language we still learn something interesting from each other.

In conclusion, being an author requires a lot of creativity like making a story or developing a notion. Also, an author should be able to get his reader’s attention by making his writing interesting and using the right vocabulary. It’s also important to make your writing clear and understandable if not you miss a huge part in your dissertation.

Homework #2

Mike Bunn’s “How to Read Like a Writer” illustrates how important it is to analyze and question why an author writes the way they do, for one’s own writing endeavors. Bunn writes “You are already an author,” this quote tells the reader that they’ve always been an author and not just with their writing pieces. An author uses their experiences to write, it’s all about the choices we make.  The way you live, the way you communicate with others, and your decisions/choices make you an author. Personally, I’ve always seen writing as a way to understand and learn more about yourself, I write to reflect. I write every day as of lately it’s been for school but here and there I write for myself. It has certainly helped for college pieces because I can take a deeper dive into what the author wants me to gain for the piece. It also helps me analyze what exactly the text is saying, the information that I should take away from it, but now since now, I’m aware that reading isn’t only for information I can now ask more questions about the author’s choices. As well as ask myself why I feel a certain way about the text, it’s quite interesting to further analyze our own choices due to the author’s piece. Throughout Bunn’s article, I noticed that the author’s purpose and audience are a large factor when it comes to reading like a writer. I appreciated Bunn’s introduction, it’s personal it eases a reader into the reading like a writer technique, I’d liked to use this approach in my own writing. A story can relate and engage a specific type of audience in this case it’s students, we all read but do we really take the time and read like an author.

Homework #2

Mike Bunn stated, “You are already an author.” I think this means that the first time you wrote a story as a kid or picked up a book and read it you became an author.  Everyday our life consist of reading and writing.  Whether you texting, sending out emails, scrolling on social media, doing assignments and more.  Whatever an author does we do to just without that great title. I write everyday and that is texting and doing assignments. One thing I would to improve during college while I continue to read and write everyday is my vocabulary. I’ll like to use big words in my essays or paragraph or just in general.

In Bunn’s article I learned that  as I read I should ask questions as I am reading and try to figure out what technique were being used. this may help me understand the story more.
