Micro-Activity #21: Reflecting and Building the Portfolio

Part 1

I think reflection is a great exercise for me in order to reflect on all the work I have done throughout the semester and see if I have grown as a writer. I think I would discuss how I was always broad about my topics and I understood the importance of becoming specific with my ideas in order to achieve a certain goal. For instance, if I want to give a specific message to an audience, I have to be very specific on who the audience is, how the subject relates to them, how they might respond back and what is my main goal and purpose of me directing them. I would definitely include my reflection on the Unit 3 project because I had so much fun making the project. It is highly likely I would create more projects like Unit 3 for me and my friends. I like having fun and getting out of the box with my projects. I also learned that I have to be more creative and in order to do that I have to explore different projects by artists. I have to grow my visualization and start exploring more ideas. I realized that I have become textbook perfect instead of just being creative and thinking more open minded. I also realized that there is a lot I have to work on regarding my beliefs and my opinions on controversial topics because my beliefs are what defines me. I should be going out and travel more in order to learn more, so I could have strong opinions and be more educated on them by experience.

Part 2

For the first piece I chose Week 3 Work “Micro-Activity # 4: Responding to Douglass” because this activity helped me a lot. This activity included reading a speech by Douglas and choosing quotes in order to break it down. We chose a specific quote, cited the quote, paraphrased the quotes, and wrote a response on the quotes regarding what is the purpose of the quote. Furthermore, we chose quotes that included a strategy, we stated which strategy it is and how it aids Douglass to send his message to the audience and make the speech more powerful. This activity helped me break down a difficult text into smaller pieces in order to comprehend more clearly. The activity as a whole was a bit difficult for me however I realized that the text is more clearer and more comprehensive once I break down the quote, paraphrase it and understand why the quote is significant.

For the second piece I choose Week 7 work Micro-Activity #11: “Developing Research Questions” This activity was really helpful to me in order to come up with a research question. This activity included me just brainstorming and researching on a specific topic that I am interested in. We had to just freely jot down some information we found regarding the topic. Then we had to write a summary based on the information we found. Then we had to write four questions based on the research we had done. This activity was really helpful because at first we have to go out and look for any information then write a one piece summary in order to have  a clear simple understanding then write open ended questions which leads to a specific research question. I might use such activity in the future in order to come up with a research question in my future classes.

It sounds to me as if you are saying that you have worked on figuring out and developing the writing process that works for you. And that you have started to think about writing as models for the work you can do yourself.
